Review of Phoenix Ward
2nd January 2024

I haven't had a negative experience since I arrived on the hospital grounds. I have gone all the way through from 136 to section 3, I have since been supported by the entire team to look after myself. I still have a bit of a journey ahead of me, however during the worst episode I have ever had. The nursing team, HCA teams, House keeping team, Doctors, ward clerks and consultants have been incredibly supportive. My ward rounds have been consistently more effective for my plan of action and moving forward with my life. 2023 was a difficult year, I got divorced, lost my nan and one of my uncles, when I got 136 I lost tenancy on my shared house room and I had to resign my job. Fortunately they gave me my last payment which will get me through this next period financially. I have accrued over £15000 worth of debts due to having episodes of mania. Since march last year I have been bouncing from mostly highs, but follow them I have periods of extreme lows. Fortunately friends, family, the adult mental health team at the warneford (crisis team and aspen team). During my last episode which has been ongoing since September 20th, it all started when I forgot to take my meds on holiday. By the time I got home I had slipped into psychosis and had decided I didn't need to take them. Long story short, my notes from my previous three admissions were in Cornwall and due to it being a separate district. They were not able to access my previous notes and they had limited information on how to treat me and how I present. I gave them the solid copies that I had at home of all my care plans and other supporting documents. So together with the history and the quality of the team here. I have been effectively managed and supported. I would like to say a big thank you to every member of the staff team on the site, they have all helped me so much. Despite all my challenges this year, from the moment I got into the assessment hub I met Lauren and Katie, who are two of the nursing staff. I felt safe when I met them and ever since they have been helping me against my greatest advisory, myself. The team is so efficient and effective, they make it look easy to save me from myself. Now due to the level of care and support over the course of my admission here, I am looking forward to this year and I am hopeful that it will be the best year of my life. It feels like my whole life has led up to me coming here and my overall outlook is positive. Attitude reflects leadership, always in all ways. I feel that I have been led through a time of turmoil and change. And now I am planning my future and it looks far brighter than my past, for the past has passed and I am not going that way. Lastly I would like to thank the entire NHS as a whole through from the police teams, ambulance teams and every other team that has ever supported me. I have always had such quality of service and support over the duration of my mental health journey. Kind regards, Luke Blowing, Room 7, Phoenix Ward, NHS mental health hospital, Littlemore, Oxford

Keep fighting the good fight. You are doing an amazing job, every single member makes the NHS great. Without you all the countries mental health and general well being would be in turmoil. I appreciate every one of you who read this document and I hope to work with you all in the future. To help people like myself who have been in or going through mental health issues.
